PHILOSOPHY OF CARE

The flats were re-furbished to a high standard in 2010. Supporters guide, help or supervise according to need, to enable each individual to adjust to and manage the environment as they develop their lifestyle. 24 hour support is available. Person centred care planning and risk assessment is started on the first day of tenancy.

MISSION STATEMENT

NIGHTINGALE HOLISTIC SERVICES LTD.

We, the Directors of Nightingale Holistic Services Limited promise to support our service users to develop in an environment that resists institutional practices and rejects authoritarian attitudes yet which functions according to current legislation and the health and social care standards of regulatory authorities.

We will respect the individual choices and decisions our service users make and support them to reach their aims and goals safely. We will endeavour to help our service users to manage social situations to enable them as far as possible to take their place as citizens in their local community.

We will ensure our service users live in a safe and secure environment and support them to develop their own personal space to reflect their identity. We will support them to maintain valued relationships with family and friends and offer opportunities for them to form new social networks.

We will take account of and support any spiritual or religious need and community ritual or similar in which our individual service users express an interest or traditionally participate in.

We will do our utmost to ensure our service users experience a quality of life they wish for themselves and support them as they progress towards their identified aims. We will ensure that our service users have a voice and protect their right to equality and community inclusion at all times.

We will support our service users to take part in and engage in practicing and learning about the daily living skills that are required to become an independent tenant in their own home to maintain their dignity and develop self esteem and a sense of belonging.

We will ensure that our staff receive ongoing and up to date training to enable them to meet the needs of our service users and to support them through change.

Policies and procedures have been developed specifically with the needs of young adults with Autism in mind.

This philosophy of care underpins the service we provide to young people with autism and learning disabilities and forms the basis of our mission statement. More details in service users guide.

Nightingale

The philosophy of the Directors and Management of Nightingale Holistic is to care for the 'whole' environment at 85, Whyteleafe Road and to consider the 'whole' impact and experience of our tenants when they are in the community with staff. The service is engaged in Accreditation with The Autistic Society.

Policies and procedures have been developed to ensure the health and safety of our staff and tenants. Development of personal space is very much up to the tenant. We provide the basics but our staff will actively support service users to make their home their own by personalising their own room and attending meetings with flat mates to decide about communal areas such as the lounge and kitchen. Tenants have the option to use the Nightingale Holistic domiciliary care agency for their care needs and can rest assured that all support workers are trained and work in accordance with the General Social Care Councils (GSCC) code of practice.

At the centre of our philosophy of care is the intention to enable our service users to develop the life they want for themselves. We do this by creating opportunities for them to try new experiences and supporting them to make a variety of decisions and choices connected with those experiences.

We want every service user to realise their full potential and support them to set goals that are realistic and achievable. We encourage and train our staff to try and see the world from the perspective of the tenant, to enter the world of the person with autism and communicate with them appropriately.
